What is a WAE Event?

The WAE event is the Working Dog Aptitude Evaluation, and has long been a staple of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America used to evaluate whether a dog exhibits the characteristics that are natural to the breed. Successful participants receive a WAC, or Working Aptitude Certificate to it is often also referred to as the WAC. Recently the AKC has recognized this test as an AKC title. The exam consists of eight steps in sequence:

  3. Reaction to the sound of gunshots

  4. Reaction to a startle such as an umbrella opening in the dog’s face

  5. Walking on an unusual surface such as a sheet of plastic….

  6. …. or an X Pen

  7. and reaction to an eminent danger
